In addition to our usual busy schedule of classes, public self-defense seminars (not listed here) etc., here's what else we have been and will be up to!
2020 | It's only January, and we already have several seminars scheduled for 2020 (including at the government facility), as well as a couple more for which the specific dates are being finalized. If you want a seminar or discussion - or something else that's in line with our focus or training, contact us before the schedule fills up! |
Sep-Oct 2019 |
Eighth iteration (sixth year in a row) of the six-week self defense series for employees of the government facility. (Seeing a pattern here? You should be!) The students always find the course material very relevant, and the instructor continues to update and fine tune the written materials provided, and the defenses covered. This year the class also heard from an individual who, while employed at a different government agency, went through simulated force on force training, so that - being with Public Affairs (he's not law enforcement) - he could speak knowledgeably about it. He described the effects the stress of the situation had on him, a number of which had been talked about in class, and the students found it quite interesting and useful.
We also continue to be contacted by outside groups for seminars, and - as always - tailor the length and frequency (including on a repeat basis, if desired) to what the groups want. |
May-Jun 2019 | Seventh iteration (sixth year in a row) of the six-week self defense series for employees of the government facility. What, again?! Yep! (And in between seminars, the instructor always gets several contacts asking when the next iteration will be held.) This is the largest class to date - 18 people! (The instructor told the fitness center back in 2014 that the class could be up to 20 people.) |
Apr-May 2018 | Sixth iteration (fifth year in a row) of the six-week self defense series for employees of the government facility. This is getting to be a (good) habit! The feedback has always been very good - including from individuals married to law enforcement officers (to whom they took home the materials we handed out). |
Apr-May 2017 | Fifth iteration (fourth year in a row) of the six-week self defense series for employees of the government facility. Yep, they like us! (Others have contacted them to try and set up to teach classes, but they keep falling off the radar, so we get to do it again!) |
Apr-May 2016 | Fourth iteration (third year in a row) of the six-week self defense series for employees of the government facility. They liked it so much, they're arranging to get together for happy hour - a month after it ended! There's something about getting physical with other people that forms bonds. Seriously. |

Jan-Mar 2015 | Third iteration (second year in a row) of the six-week self defense series for employees of the government facility. They loved it - again! (Including several repeat attendees.) |
mid-Jan 2015 | We were specifically contacted by Baltimore Aircoil to attend their fitness fair, to make their employees aware of our self defense training. |
mid-April 2014 | Talk and Q&A session on self defense at The Arc of Howard County, at their request. |
Apr-May 2014 | Another six-week self defense series for employees of the government facility. |
Jan-Feb 2014 | Six-week self defense series for employees of a government facility in the area. |
late 2013 | Several local schools and businesses contacted us about arranging self-defense seminars for their students and clients - scheduling to be determined. |
May 2013 | We were specifically contacted by Harkins Builders to attend their health fair and to talk about the importance of self defense. They were also interested in holding a self-defense seminar for their employees. |
Oct 2012 | We participated in Family Night at Fort Meade for the third year in a row, which was (again!) a resounding success. The attendees were very interested in the demonstrations, and our dojo members did an excellent job of giving background and explaining the techniques. |
summer 2012 | We participated by request in New West Learning Center's summer program, teaching jujitsu to the attending children. |
Apr 2012 | By-request self-defense seminar for the residents of Vantage House senior living community. |
Mar 2012 | By-request self-defense seminar for a group of young women getting ready to transition to college. |
Jan 2012 | By-request women's self-defense seminar, held at Curves in Crownsville. Lots of fun had by all! |
Oct 2011 | For the second year in a row, we did a self-defense demonstration during the Family Night (formerly Family Battle Rhythms) event at Fort Meade. This year we were joined by some of our students from the youth class, who impressed the visitors! |
Apr 2011 | We moved, returning to our old haunts, across the street from where the dojo first opened. |
Mar 2011 | We held two self-defense seminars by request. Contact us to set one up for your group! (These were in addition to our regular seminars.) |
Mar 2011 | We were a sponsor for the Walter Reed Auxiliary's annual Spring Fling. All proceeds benefit the Auxiliary's programs supporting wounded soldiers and their families and children. |
Oct 2010 | We participated in the Family Battle Rhythms event at Fort Meade. We were specifically contacted to do the self-defense demonstration, which was well received. |
Jul 2010 | We had the privilege of training the members of the 313th TC HHD Bn (based in Glen Burnie), prior to their deployment in October. |
Jun 2010 | We worked with the Old Navy store in Columbia to provide the community with child safety/identification kits. |
fall 2009 | We partnered with Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children (CSAAC) for an after-school program. |
